Play hard, seniors! “You’re never too old to play”

Introducing Sydney’s first outdoor ‘Seniors Fitness Station’ -

We love the positive benefits of out door activity centres and the fact that they never close.

The park was designed to suit the needs of older peoples' health and wellbeing.

There are many benefits to using this facility e.g. getting out in the sunshine, fresh air, beautiful maintained grounds, health, wellbeing, socialize, meet friends, strengthen muscles

The park features low impact exercise equipment designed to help older people improve their balance and flexibility.

Some of the equipment they provide are: free runners, sit-up benches, push-up bars, a cycle trainer, body flexor, upper body trainer, water bubbler and bike racks.

There are so many advantages to using this faility for seniors: to build strength, endurance, agility and balance using the wellness circuit. The park is located on the Bay Run in Leichhardt, below the Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre.

Many other councils offer similar types of low impact exercise equipment suitable for the elderly so check with your local council.

Reap the benefits of exercise, being out doors and meet new people.

We love the sound of tea and a concert on the 21 March in Willoughby or meet with ambassador Tom McCammont, who is an avid traveller and scuba diver, on the 22 March for Afternoon Tea.

Managing Arthritis - Diet and Joint Protection!

Arthritis Australia ( )states that as the population ages, the number of people with arthritis is growing and that judging from current, by 2050, 7 million Australians will suffer from some form of arthritis.

Arthritis is not yet curable. While the condition is usually manageable, it invariably impacts on a individual’s quality of life.  One way of managing arthritis is to follow Joint Protection techniques i.e. respect pain, do not place your joints into positions which can increase deformity, try to carry most weight through the strongest joints, do not keep still but regularly change your position and keep active/moving and if necessary use adaptive equipment.

If you want to trial any adaptive equipment to assist with joint protection contact the Independent Living Centre NSW on (02) 9890 0940 or visit them at 1 Fennell Street, Parramatta, NSW 2150.
