Community Transport supports people to continue living independently in their community

Community Transport supports elderly people and people who have a disability with difficulties in using conventional public transport. Carers are also welcome to use Community Transport to assist the person they care for while traveling.

Community Transport helps people by providing access to recreation, shopping, medical care, social services and social contact.

The Aged Case Work Team recommends Community Transport as it assists people in need and helps people to maintain their independence.
Other benefits provided by Community Transport are:

· Providing cost effective services
· Providing modified vehicles which contain: hand rails, safety steps and some vehicles have wheel chair assess
· Giving people appropriate times to enter and exit the vehicles

Their staff are trained to support the needs of people who use their service/s.

You can always speak to your local council to find out who provides Community Transport in your area and to discuss eligibility.

Don’t take your hearing for granted! The Hearing and Balance Centre located at St Vincents Hospital is holding their Hearing Awareness Week's Open Day on Saturday 24th August 2013

The Hearing and Balance Centre will be holding it's 11th Hearing Awareness Week Open Day on Saturday 24th August 2013 from 10am to 2pm.    

The day provides people with an opportunity to hear about a variety of ways a person can improve and protect their hearing.

The Aged Case Work Team recommends people with hearing loss and people without hearing loss to attend the open day to keep them informed about:
  • Ways to protect their hearing 
  •  New aids or surgical procedures to improve hearing 
 People can also ask questions and have a hearing screening test on the day. 

The Hearing and Balance Centre helps diagnose hearing problems early and advise people on how to use the latest hearing aids to improve their quality of life.

Inaugural Inner & Eastern Sydney Transcultural Mental Health Professionals Network

Last week ...

JewishCare hosted the inaugural Inner &Eastern Sydney Transcultural Mental Health Professionals Network. This network was established as a means for professionals working in cultures across the board to use their wide range of skills and experiences within the field of Mental Health to create better practice for professionals in the Inner and Eastern Suburbs Area.

The network will have core areas and topics to focus on with the attributes of Professional Development, Networking and guest speakers closely linked in.

A presentation on Human Trafficking was give to the network members.

The network was a success and look forward to hearing more about it in the future…
